Cockroaches in restaurants and homes: where they hide and why surface spraying fails
Cockroaches do not live out in the open. They hide in warm, damp, narrow spaces, which is why spraying visible surfaces only kills the insects that cross it while the actual colony stays untouched.
Where do they hide?
In kitchens they sit behind the range, under the fridge, and inside floor drain openings. In homes they spread to bathrooms, storage rooms, and anywhere damp and tight. Cockroaches usually arrive with a delivery, a used appliance, or through the drain pipes.
Why does the problem keep coming back?
Heat, moisture, and food residue let cockroaches breed year round. What you see with your own eyes is not a reliable measure of the infestation; sticky traps give you a real weekly count instead.
What is the correct treatment?
Treatment starts with two steps together:
- Placing gel bait inside cracks and the tight spaces cockroaches hide in
- Using an insect growth regulator at the main gathering points

At the same time, equipment bases need a deep clean and every crack and gap needs to be sealed.
How do you know it worked?
After two rounds two weeks apart, the trap count should reach zero. If it does not, the cause is either a gap in daily cleaning or an infestation point that has not been found yet.
